5th Grade 3-D Insects

This is an interdisciplinary science & art lesson where students learn about the anatomy of insects.  Students begin the lesson by drawing insect diagrams in their sketchbooks and labeling their bug bodies using the proper scientific terms that they are learning in science class.  Students then sculpted a 3-dimensional insect from their imaginations, using model magic, acrylic paint, and mod podge. They also completed a worksheet to provide more information about their insect creations, such as what habitat their bug lives in and what their bug eats for food.

MA Standards: 1.5, 4.4, 10.2 (Science)

Vocabulary: antennae, abdomen, thorax, sculpt
