  1. The students had a very hard time with the programming part of this activity. We had given them a direction to go in, mainly hints about looping and the inside of the loop being going straight until the sensor sees the line, then turning, then going straight until the sensor sees the line again. It took us two class periods to make progress on this activity. In the second class, we gave more clear instructions by asking the girls to guide us like they would the robot and that helped clear up some of the problems. One class had directions on the board and this didn't work very well because the boys just programmed what the directions said and didn't understand why they were doing it.
