Goals for 2009-10:
- Include elements of professional development for consortium participants (readings...)
- Broaden reach of TDLC within Tufts: reach out to faculty and staff who might want to learn more about distance learning
- Create resources for Tufts community engaged or planning to engaged in distance learning (how-to guides, use cases, webcasts)
- Engage in dialogue with peer institutions
Ideas:
- Better web presence at Tufts and beyond
- Meeting frequency: 2 meetings / semester.
- Meeting location: Have Boston (Nutrition) and Medford (AT) as physical meeting place. Offer choice to access via Connect
- March: Participate in a webcast with RAK students to talk about their experience (Record webcast via Adobe Connect)
- Integrate a Distance Learning session in a faculty development event? (coordinate with Rebecca Sholes?)
- Dialogue with peer institutions: Boston Ed Tech had a distance learning event. Might want to follow up. (Nercomp?)
- Use Cases: University Seminar One Health, Dental School, Nutrition School
- answer: who, what, why, how, when. How much?
- How-to get started guide
- implementation (ex.: ramp up progressively, or implement full vision all at once)
- pros/cons of certain approaches in certain contexts (ex: recorded lectures)
- distance learning on a budget (BB, Spark, Google Docs, Skype...)
- different funding models
- discuss topic from different perspectives: technology, instructional design, DL implementation, DL faculty development, faculty support
- Rename TDLC? Concern: To a new comer, "Distance Learning" might sound like it is exclusively for "100% online learning". We want to convey that our group explores hybrid models as well. Ideas:
= Consortium / Group / Initiative?- Tufts Distance Learning and Collaboration
, - Tufts Remote Learning, Collaboration and Research
?
Next steps:
- Set date for next TDLC meeting.
- Post Adobe Connect link on wiki.
- Redesign wiki to become a Tufts-wide resource (new UI, resources section)
- Rename TDLC? - Run by Gina and Paul
- Write first story (University Seminar) - Melanie
- Write first section of How-to guide - Heather
