The goal of the mapping project is to identify parcels with agricultural potential for farmers seeking land in Massachusetts. GIS Lab Assistant, GIS Center

Tufts University Information Technology group is seeking responsible students who would like to help support the GIS Center. We are hiring for both Summer and Fall 2009 semesters.

8-15 hours of work per week, between 10am and 9pm.

Pay: $12 per hour. The job will entail keeping the GIS lab operational, assisting students with GIS projects, and providing project support for on-going research projects at the GIS Center.

Preference will be given to students with the following skills: Working knowledge of ArcGIS and willingness to learn more about ArcGIS, ENVI, IDRISI, ERDAS Imagine, Google Earth, GeoDa, Adobe products, and other computer mapping, desktop publishing, and statistical software. Must enjoy working with others and helping students learn more about GIS.

GIS Internship at the Smithsonian Conservation & Research Center

The Conservation GIS Lab at the Smithsonian Conservation & Research Center (CRC) is seeking an intern, to start immediately.  The Lab focuses on developing remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications to conservation problems.

Projects include:
1.  Using remote sensing and GIS for conservation of endangered species.  Currently we are working on projects focused on Asian elephants, giant pandas, clouded leopards, Przewalski's horses, Mongolian gazelles, and others.
2.  Training of wildlife management professionals in application of GPS, GIS and remote sensing to everyday management.
 The interns will assist with everyday lab management, enter data, help with training courses, and assist in the GIS/remote sensing aspects of these projects.  We seek interns with a good knowledge of computers, Windows operating systems, and standard office software.  Basic knowledge of GIS (preferably ArcGIS or ARC/INFO) and remote sensing are a plus but not necessary.

The student does not have to be a GIS major but needs enough experience to be able to digitize and set up base maps. They use a wind analysis software called WindPro that the intern would be able to gain valuable working experience with during their internship. The internship is available to start immediately.
