Fletcher School Fall GIS Workshop Series
Tufts GIS Center will offer a three series workshop series designed to introduce Fletcher students to International Applications of GIS. The sessions are cumulative, so we encourage people to attend all sessions. There is no charge for the workshop; it is free to all Fletcher students.
Introduction to Geographic Information Systems for International Applications
Location: Mugar Lab: Mugar 123, on the first level of Mugar Hall behind the Fares

Session 1: Introduction to GIS & Thematic Mapping
Friday, 10/2/2009, 10am-12pm.
Assignments:
We have placed two Intro Tutorials on the GIS Website:

Under the "Handy Quick Links" section, they are under the heading "ArcGIS Basics-India Edition." Please complete in the following order:
1. ArcCatalog Basics (India)
2. Creating a Map with ArcMap (India)
Please note you will need to map out a network drive to connect to the data. You must be on the Tufts network to do this. Instructions are provided under "Accessing GIS lab drives from outside the lab" Alternatively you can go into the GIS Center when a lab assistant is on duty and get a copy of the data.
Session 2: Introduction to GIS Data Sources and Data Structures
Friday, 10/9/2009, 10am-12pm. Students must have attended the first intro session
Session 3: Introduction to GIS Analysis
Friday, 11/6/2009, 10am-12pm. Students must have completed the first intro session and completed the Intro Tutorials.
