Applications to Human & Animal Health

Course Description

This course will introduce students to the fundamental concepts of the Geographic Information Systems and Science. It will consist of a theoretical part and hands-on computer tutorials with ArcGIS software. This course is designed for novices in GIS with specific focus on mapping and spatial analysis applications to human and animal health.  Topics discussed in the class include field data collection for mapping using GPS, basic GIS mapping methods, spatial data sources. The course will consist of a lecture/lab format. In addition to the in-class labs, students are expected to complete the assigned ESRI Virtual Campus course. This course is open to all students and faculty from the Veterinary School.  These course materials were originally developed by Yelena Ogneva-Himmelberger.
