Dear Friedman Community,
The University is currently in the process of assessing proposals for the food service contract on the Boston Campus, including Jaharis Cafe. The selection committee understands that we, as a group of nutrition scholars and food advocates, feel strongly that our cafe should reflect our values. They have invited us to submit our recommendations and inform the selection process.
However, we have to act fast! The deadline for proposals is the end of May, and the committee will be inviting bidders to campus for interviews in early June. We would like to hear from you by May 29th, so that we can compile and submit our final recommendations by June 2nd.
The document we submit will consist of the following sections: 1) Collaborating with the Friedman community; 2) Definitions (e.g. what does healthy mean?) ; 3) Goals and benchmarks for human and environmental health; 4) Service recommendations (e.g. no more styrofoam!); 5) Resources and positive examples; 6) Suggested menu items.
Each of these sections is expanded upon in its own page below. To comment on one of the "children" pages, open it and then click on "add comment." If you are logged in as "anonymous," please add your name to the end of your comments. We are looking forward to a lively conversation around this important issue!
Please help Slow Food Tufts make the cafe a point of pride for our community!
Many thanks,
The Slow Food Tufts Steering Committee
