Description of the Boston Bedrock Project
We have collected published USGS maps as well as field maps from the Newton, Boston South, and Boston North quadrangles and are working on compiling them into one digital GIS database that will be accessible to the public. Preexisting out of print USGS maps as well as aeromagnetic maps will be scanned into the computer, georeferenced and digitized in GIS. These will then be combined with digitized maps from Margaret Thompson who has done field work in the Newton quadrangle. After all the known outcrops are combined, we hope to make a map of the bedrock geology of these quadrangles.
Goals of the Boston Bedrock Project
By the end of the project we would like to have a digitized GIS map of the Newton, Boston South, and Boston North quadrangles that include rock outcrops and proposed bedrock geology from both existing maps as well as from the field notes and research of Margaret Thompson.
